We have a variety of payment options available to you. Prior to the payment deadline (see calendar), you may register for courses without payment. Full payment of tuition and fees is due by the payment deadline.
If you register for courses after the full payment deadline, you must pay in full immediately. Otherwise, you risk being dropped from all courses and waitlists.
Payment must be made directly to Student Financial Services at the Harvard Summer School. If you do not submit your payment directly to the Harvard Summer School using one of the payment options listed below, your payment may be returned. We accept the following forms of payment.
Payment Options
Checks
Harvard Summer School accepts e-checks and paper checks drawn on a US bank. Starter checks are are not accepted.
e-checks can be submitted on the Student Finance portal on MyDCE. Your payment by e-check will post immediately. If you send a paper check, be sure you allow enough time for it to arrive. Payment by check is posted to your account after it has been received and processed. We are not responsible for mail delays. Send checks payable to Harvard Summer School to Student Financial Services, 51 Brattle Street, Cambridge, MA 02138.
If your check or e-check payment is returned unpaid by your bank for any reason, you will be assessed a $25 charge per returned check.
Checks may be converted and processed using the Automated Clearing House (ACH) Network, under the rules governed by the National Automated Clearing House Association and the Federal Reserve Bank.
Credit or Debit Card
Harvard Summer School accepts MasterCard, Visa, American Express, and Discover. When prompted, enter the billing address for your card exactly as it appears on your credit card statement.
Harvard Summer School is not responsible for fluctuations in international exchange rates or interest charges due to the timing of credit or debit card charges or refunds.
TransferMate: International Payments & Domestic Bank Wires
International Payments
TransferMate can provide seamless international payments. To use TransferMate, log into your student account, select Make A Payment, choose “TransferMate INTL” from the drop-down menu, and follow the prompts to complete your transaction. International payments made through TransferMate are free of charge.
While funds may leave your bank immediately, international payments can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks to arrive at Harvard Summer School.
We recommend initiating payment at least two weeks before the full payment deadline. If payment is not received by the full payment deadline for your program, you risk being dropped from all courses and waitlists.
Domestic Bank Wires
Bank wires may also be initiated through TransferMate. Log into your student account, go to ‘Make Payment’ tab, choose TransferMate INTL from the drop-down menu, and follow the prompts to complete your transaction. Domestic wires may be completed by selecting the United States from the country menu. TransferMate charges a $20 fee for domestic transactions. Please note, there is no fee for e-checks.
Authorized Users
You may authorize others (parents, employers, other third parties) to access your financial account information online — to view your student account details and submit a payment directly to your account via credit card or electronic check (U.S. bank accounts only).
In compliance with the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA), your student financial records may not be shared with a third party without your written consent. Adding an authorized user serves as your written consent that a third party may view your account information and make payments on your behalf via the Student Finance Portal only.
Please note that the courses in which you are enrolled for the term will be included on your financial statement, and will be visible to any authorized users you choose.
Authorized Users:
- Do not have access to your stored payment methods, academic records, or other personal information.
- Can only view permitted information by signing into the Student Finance Portal.
To authorize a User:
- Sign into the Student Finance Portal in MyDCE by selecting “Financial Services” at the top of the page.
- Once you have consented to the Billing and Payment Terms and Conditions, you will find the “Authorized Users” link on the Finance Portal main page.
- You may manage your authorized users by adding, deleting and editing authorized users information from the Student Finance Portal main page. You may authorize multiple users.
Please note that authorized user access is granted for the online portal only. Student Financial Services staff are unable to discuss a student’s account details with an authorized user via phone or email.
Payment Plan for Admitted Degree Candidates
Harvard Summer School offers tuition payment plans to Harvard Extension School degree cadidates as well as students enrolled in the Premedical Program.
Plan enrollment opens on the first day of course registration. The first monthly installment is due on April 1. You may enroll after this date, but you will need to also pay any installments with a due date that has passed.
Installment due dates are: April 1, May 1, June 1, and July 1.
Installments should be paid on time to remain eligible to participate.
To enroll in the payment plan, log into your MyDCE account and choose the “Financial Services” option. Once in the Student Finance Portal, choose “Payment Plans” and select the appropriate term. Any available plan will appear in the drop-down menu.
Your tuition balance, as well as any summer housing fees, less any payments including accepted financial aid, can be put on a payment plan.
If your student account balance changes for any reason, your payment plan will automatically update within 24 hours. Do not make additional payments before the plan updates.
Harvard University Tuition Assistance Plan (TAP)
Harvard’s Tuition Assistance Plan (TAP) makes it possible for University staff, faculty, part-time employees and retirees to take Summer School courses. See Harvard University Tuition Assistance Plan (TAP) for more information.
Veterans’ education benefits and active military assistance (TA)
Veterans may be eligible to receive education benefits through the Veterans Administration. Active military service members may be eligible to receive TA. See Funding for Veterans and Active Military for more information.
Financial Aid
If you are in a degree program at another school, arrange for financial assistance for Harvard Summer School through your home school’s financial aid office via a consortium agreement. Apply early to meet the Harvard Summer School payment deadlines (see the calendar).
