If a course has limited enrollment, it is noted in the course description and course search results.
Tips For Registering For Courses With Limited Enrollment
- Check course availability using the course search as soon as registration begins. Search results display the enrollment limit, as well as course and waitlist enrollment.
- Take the test of critical reading and writing skills early. Many courses require this test, and you cannot register for them unless you have a passing test score or minimum required grade in a listed alternate course.
- Meet the English proficiency requirement early. If your native language is not English, you must meet this requirement before you can register for courses.
- Register online early. Courses with limited enrollment fill quickly. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis, and many courses fill and close before classes begin. When registering online, you know immediately whether you are registered, waitlisted, or closed out of a course so that you can register for an alternate course, if you wish.
- If the course is full when you register, you may register for a place on the waitlist. You are charged full tuition.
- If the waitlist is full, the course is closed to further registration until space becomes available again.
- If the course is closed, we encourage you to keep checking the course availability using the course catalog. Courses often reopen as space becomes available, especially after registration and payment deadlines.
- Pay your balance in full. If you do not pay your balance in full by the payment deadline, you risk being dropped from all courses and waitlists. If you are dropped for non-payment, you remain eligible to register for courses until registration ends. However, there is no guarantee space will still be available in the courses or on the waitlists from which you were dropped.
Tips For Students On Waitlists
- Log in to MyDCE regularly to see if you are still waitlisted. Your waitlist position is based on the date and time of your registration. We cannot predict your chances for admission.
- Check your email. After being admitted to a course or closed off of a waitlist, you will be sent an email message by the next business day advising you to view your course schedule to see the registration change.
- Pay your balance in full. You are charged full tuition to be on a waitlist. If you do not pay your balance in full by the payment deadline, you risk being dropped from all courses and waitlists. If you are dropped for non-payment, you remain eligible to register for courses until registration ends. However, there is no guarantee space will still be available in the courses or on the waitlists from which you were dropped. You may also drop from a waitlist for a full-tuition refund at any time before the 100% tuition refund deadline.
- Attend all classes or participate in online courses, and complete all required coursework through the course changes deadline. Late work may be submitted only with instructor approval and according to instructor policies. Being admitted from a waitlist after the course has begun does not warrant an exception to those policies.
- Do not ask instructors for special consideration as instructors do not admit students. Only the Registrar’s Office does. If space in the course becomes available, students on the waitlist will be admitted by the Registrar’s Office.
- Have an alternate course in mind in case you are not admitted from the waitlist. If your alternate course is also limited, you should register and pay for it. If you are admitted to the course for which you are waitlisted, remember to drop the alternate course by the 100% tuition refund deadline if you do not want to be enrolled in both courses.
- Waitlists are resolved by the course changes deadline. If you are not admitted to the course for which you are waitlisted, you receive a 100% tuition refund for that course, and you may no longer attend.
